Mauritian Rum Tour – Tour Itinerary
Your amazing Mauritian Rhum tour starts off at the Rhumerie Saint Aubin, a plantation and an artisanal rum distillery. It is here where Mauritius’ very first agricultural rum was crafted entirely from pure sugarcane juice.
The Saint Aubin Estate have been cultivating sugar cane since 1819. The estate consists of a distillery, a beautiful big colonial house that was once the residence of the former owner and now a charming restaurant, a anthurium greenhouse, a vanilla nursery and a gift shop.
You will learn all about rum production and the processes of distilling rum. The tour will conclude with a rum tasting session that will give you the chance to try different rums from the Saint Aubin range. You will also get an opportunity to purchase some rum.
After our tour we will meander along the scenic South Coast of Mauritius to the village of Chamarel for our second stop.
Driving through Chamarel you will notice all the sugarcane fields interweaved with pineapples and other exotic fruits growing in the region. Here perched 300m above sea level is the La Rhumerie de Chamarel. Get ready for a guided tour and a detailed explanation on the rum making process. During certain times of the year you will see the whole rum making process as it happens when the factory is distilling the rum. The rum from La Rhumerie de Chamarel differs from your typical rum, it is beautiful and smooth and full of different flavours. They also have a great collection of aged and premium rums. The best part of the tour is of course the chance to taste all these rums. We love the vanilla and coconut.
After the tour and tasting you will be taken to the beautiful restaurant for a delicious lunch with a Mauritian flare. Be sure to try their signature rum cocktail or mocktail.
